Emperor Qin and His Elixir

CreatorWorld TagSeriesDeath Views

Emperor Qin pursued physical immortality through elixirs, yet (as one account suggested) excessive mercury poisoning from such attempts contributed to his death. I placed a floating golden elixir above his hand and an alchemical furnace beneath him (on which the patterns mimicked Sanxingdui), while layered mountains, Terracotta Warriors, the Great Wall, and clouds surround his figure. The reddish-orange background uses negative space for clouds, with luminous green, yellow, and acrylic markers intensifying the landscape. I stacked collage layers so mountains overlap Qin’s body, creating a dreamlike, immortal-realm effect. Ironically, while his elixir failed, the Great Wall, Terracotta Army, and historical legends of him uniting the country became another form of survival that lasts to now.
