Need a Wheel?

The title is a pun: needing a ride, and literally needing a Ferris wheel. I imagined one growing naturally inside a forest, with a redwood as its trunk and ripening fruits replacing passenger cabins. A squirrel and Steller’s Jay ignore the ride, however. They live on the structure, a slightly rebellious child’s choice. Compared with the other two watercolors, I simplified the background to shift focus toward the decorative tree. Green and brown tones, excessive white highlights, and wavy light-dark patterns make the bark swirl almost like water. Leaves, flowers, fruit, and the watercolor’s natural texture all soften the sharp branches, creating a quieter, nostalgic kind of childhood happiness.
